Ho Kwok-Chee Karey

Cello

  Karey received her Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours and Professional Diploma from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2004 and 2005, under the tutelage of Professor Ray Wang. In 2006, she was awarded the Molly McAulay Memorial Scholarship to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with the Danish cellist Georg Pedersen. Upon completion of her Master Degree in Sydney, Karey returned to Hong Kong and has since been a part-time staff at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In addition, she joined Hong Kong Sinfonietta as one of its contracted musicians in July 2007.

  She has given numerous performances overseas and has participated in various international music festivals, such as the Asian Youth Orchestra (2002) and the International Summer Academy of the University Mozarteum, Salzburg (2003). In Summer 2003, her string quartet performed in Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and United Kingdom as part of the “Re-launching Hong Kong” project held by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Brussels). Other overseas performances included the Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s European Tour to France and Lithuania in 2005 and performances at the festival La Folle Journee au Japon in 2007.

  Active in chamber music playing, Karey gave performances of piano trios and string quartets while studying at the Academy. Recently, she devotes a lot of time in playing cello ensemble and has gone on a tour to Taiwan with the Cellistra in April 2007.
